Unions United Food Drive, Giving Tree Program Set to Benefit Community
Unions United Food Drive begins Tuesday, Nov. 25.

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato is holding a number of events this fall to help out the University and local community. The Unions United Food Drive, the Third Annual Giving Tree Program and the recent 5th Annual Chili Cook-Off & Stop Hunger Food Drive are among the events sponsored by Minnesota State Mankato campus organizations.
Unions United Food Drive
The Unions United Food Drive to benefit the ECHO Food Shelf begins Tuesday, Nov. 25 and runs through Monday, Dec. 15. Food donations are accepted as well as monetary donations (payable to the ECHO Food Shelf).
Multiple collection sites have been set up on campus, including:
- Career Development Center (Wigley Administration Center 209)
- Faculty Association Office (Morris Hall 240B)
- ITS break room (Memorial Library 3010)
- Library Administration Office (Memorial Library 3104)
- Wiecking Center lobby
- A site will also be set up at South Central College
Sponsoring unions include AFSCME Council 5 Local 638; Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE); Inter-Faculty Association (IFO); Minnesota State University Association of Administrative & Service Faculty (MSUAASF); Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA); Middle Management Association (MMA); and Minnesota Government Engineers Council (MGEC).

Giving Tree Program
The Third Annual Giving Tree Program will be put on by Minnesota State Mankato’s Non-Traditional Student Center and Community Engagement Office. This event is designed to inspire giving to families of Minnesota State Mankato students who are in need.
There are 40 Minnesota State Mankato families registered and a total of 100 children who need gifts. Those interested in sponsoring a family or child are encouraged to register to be a sponsor. Registration will run through Monday, Dec. 1. Chili Cook-Off & Stop Hunger Food Drive for Campus Kitchen
On Wednesday, Nov. 19, University Dining Services (Sodexo) teamed up with Campus Kitchen and other campus community members to host the 5th Annual Chili Cook-Off & Stop Hunger Food Drive in Centennial Student Union.
More than 220 people attended the event, and in total, 811 items were collected in the food drive before and during the cook-off. More than $400 was also donated. All food and monetary donations were provided to Campus Kitchen.
