Dec. 20: Football Team to Play for National Championship

Mavericks to take on Colorado State-Pueblo at 3 p.m. in Kansas City, Kan. Game will be televised live on ESPN2.

Mankato, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University, Mankato football team defeated visiting Concord University (W. Va.) 47-13 on Saturday in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs to advance to the NCAA Division II national championship game for the first time in school history.

The undefeated Mavericks (14-0 overall) will take on Colorado State University-Pueblo (13-1 overall) in the national title game, which will be played at 3 p.m. (Central time) on Saturday, Dec. 20 at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan.

The national championship game will be televised live on ESPN2.

There will be a pep rally at Sporting Park in Kansas City from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Mavericks will enter the field through the crowd at 1 p.m.

The Travel & Cruise Center is sponsoring fan buses that will travel to the national championship game and back from Mankato, Minn. Buses will depart at 6 a.m. on Saturday and return after Saturday's game. Cost for the bus is $98 per person (does not include game ticket; cash or check only.) Locally, the Loose Moose in downtown Mankato is hosting a watch party at 2:30 p.m. on Mankato.
