Jan. 12-19: Outdoor Skating Rink Open on Campus

Rink to be set up on Performing Arts Center lawn and will include warming house, music, hot chocolate.

Mankato, Minn. – A new outdoor ice skating rink will be open from Jan. 12-19 at Minnesota State University, Mankato on the Performing Arts Center lawn near Ellis and Maywood avenues, and the general public is invited to skate for free from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 and Thursday, Jan. 15.

Music and a warming house with heaters and benches will be provided. Hot chocolate will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefitting University student organizations. The rink will be lit with portable lighting and holiday lighting.

The rink will also be open to the public during daylight hours, but University groups have reserved the ice during most available hours from Jan. 12-19. Rink operations will be dependent on weather, and rink closures will be announced at

The Minnesota State Mankato Office of Residential Life and the IMPACT Programming Board are co-sponsoring the skating rink. A limited number of ice skates are available on a first-come, first-serve basis for complimentary rental to University faculty, staff, students and family members with use of a MavCARD.
