Jan. 25: Indie Folk Duo, The Ericksons

Performance set for Halling Recital Hall.

Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music News Release, 1-6-2015

Mankato, Minn. – Indie-folk duo The Ericksons open the Spring 2015 Performance Series season at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Department of Music will present the duo on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.

The Ericksons have maintained their stark, soul-baring, go-to-the-light sound while stretching out musically on their latest CD, "The Wild." The CD introduces electro-pop instrumentation to their mystical songwriting and ethereal vocal harmonies. Atmospheric guitar/pedal-steel parts and rolling drums add a sheen to the harmonious sound of sisters Bethany Valentini’s and Jenny Kochsiek’s coffeehouse-warm, Emmylou Harris-channeling vocals.

The Minneapolis-based duo gives their arresting sound a fun new twist through their collaboration with the production team of Sean Carey (Bon Iver), and Ben Lester (Field Report). Their inventive new sound evokes light, hope, and strength, and represents an evolution of sound for The Ericksons.

Concert admission is $12; $11 for students with a valid MavCARD. Discount tickets are available online for University students. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to For more information, call the Performance Series office, 507-389-5549.
