Feb. 5: Eclectic Acoustic Guitarist Peter Mulvey
Singer-songwriter to perform in Halling Recital Hall.
Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music News Release, 1-22-2015
Mankato, Minn. – Singer-songwriter Peter Mulvey performs on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.
Over the past 20 years, acoustic guitarist Mulvey has pursued a restless, eclectic path as a writer and musician, immersing himself in Tin Pan Alley styles, jazz, modern acoustic, poetry, narrative, and Americana stylings. Relentlessly touring as a headliner, he has also shared the stage with luminaries such as Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson, Ani di Franco, Indigo Girls, and Greg Brown, and has attracted an audience that stretches from Alaska to Europe.
The Irish Times calls Peter Mulvey “a joy to see” and “a phenomenal performer with huge energy, a quick-fire, quirky take on life, and an extraordinary guitar style.” The Washington Post praises “the subtle power of his husky, hushed baritone voice,” and calls it “sophisticated and intimate.” Now based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin after stints in Dublin and Boston, Peter has released 15 albums, including his latest, "The Good Stuff," a dazzling collection of songs by other artists including Duke Ellington, Tom Waits, Willie Nelson and Thelonius Monk. Peter is also a wonderful songwriter in his own right, with scores of dazzling originals full of wit and passion.
Concert admission is $12; $11 for students with a valid MavCARD. Discount tickets are available online for University students. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to www.mnsu.edu/music. For more information, call the Performance Series office, 507-389-5549.
