March 21: Sonny Knight and the Lakers

Retro style R&B performance will be at Hooligans.

Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music News Release, 3-5-2015

Mankato, Minn – Sonny Knight and his band The Lakers perform on Saturday, March 21 at Hooligans Neighborhood Pub, 1400 East Madison Avenue (Madison East Center), Mankato. The show starts at 8 p.m. with Sonny Knight performing two sets. There will not be a support act opening the show.

The concert event is co-sponsored by KMSU-The Maverick and the Minnesota State Mankato Performance Series with assistance from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Sonny Knight continues to tour Europe and the United States with a mixture of heavy funk and a feel-good groove style. Knight's retro-style R&B sound may have finally found its time, and at 66, the Mississippi-born singer is reclaiming the stage after an interrupted career. Sonny's dynamic presence and vocal power are perfectly complimented by the hard soul grooves of his seven-piece Lakers. The combination makes for a classic sound not to be missed by fans of real, organic soul music.

Concert admission is $15 advance purchase and $18 day of show. Those who wish to purchase tickets online may do so at Hooligans, or go to For more information, call the Performance Series office, 507-389-5549.
