Volunteers Needed for April 25 'Big Event'

Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State University, Mankato Community Engagement Office is organizing a day of community service activities from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 as part the “Big Event” day taking part at more than 70 college and university campuses nationwide.

The “Big Event” in the greater Mankato area is intended to promote campus and community unity, with students, faculty and staff participating in a variety of community service projects. The community service is a way of expressing gratitude for the support of the surrounding community.

Minnesota State Mankato students interested in volunteering should visit the “Big Event” volunteer sign-up forms for group sign-up, or for individual sign-up.

Student volunteers should plan to meet at the mall area in the center of campus between the Library and Wigley Administration Building at 9 a.m. on April 25. Volunteers will be given their required tools and directions and sent to their designated job sites after given a chance to eat breakfast. All volunteers will need to sign in by 9:20 a.m. for a short rally. Following the rally, teams will travel to their respective work sites to begin work around 10 a.m.

Following the day of service, students are invited back to lunch. A drawing will be held for participants who return and there will be an opportunity to share feedback on the day.
