Sept. 14: Texas Singer/Songwriter Randy Weeks

Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music News Release, 8-27-2015

Mankato, Minn. – Texas singer/songwriter Randy Weeks will appear on stage at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14 in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave. Weeks will be backed by The Erik Koskinen Band.

Weeks is best known for penning Lucinda Williams' hit "Can't Let Go" from "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road." Weeks was also a founding member of HighTone Records artists The Lonesome Strangers. Weeks recently moved from Los Angeles to Austin. Weeks said he moved because "Life in L.A. was comfortable - maybe a little too comfortable. I knew I could count on a packed house at every gig, and I lived in a cool little shack three blocks from the beach. But it became time to shake things up. Sometimes that's what needed to shift things into high gear."

Randy Weeks is one of those walk-softly-and-carry-a-big-stick artists, part J.J. Cale and part Al Green. If Weeks's work weren't so painstakingly constructed, we might be tempted to call him minimalist. As his songs make plain, this is one guy who likes to walk the tightrope without a net.

Concert admission is $12, $11 for students with a valid MavCARD. Discount tickets are available online for University students. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to
