Sept. 18-20: Lumberjacks, The Body Poets to Perform During Family Weekend

General public invited to join the campus for these free events.

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s annual Family Weekend is Friday through Sunday, and the general public is invited to join students, faculty, staff and families at free performances by The Body Poets, who were featured on the TV show, “America’s Got Talent,” and the TimberWorks Lumberjack Show, which has been featured on a variety of TV and cable outlets, including ESPN, over the past 25 years.

The Body Poets will perform Friday at 8 p.m. in the Centennial Student Union Ballroom. The Lumberjack show will be held Saturday at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on the performing arts lawn, located on the corner of Ellis and Maywood avenues.

Free parking for The Body Poets show is available in the green, purple and gold lots beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18. Free on-street parking is available for The Lumberjack Show on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The Body Poets are a dance crew that performed on season 6 of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” They are known for their style of dance and the costumes they wear when performing. A previous performance is available on YouTube.

The Lumberjack show features a performance of sports, history and comedy. Performances will include axe throwing, underhand chopping, log rolling, cross cut sawing, hot sawing and chainsaw carving, which were all skills used in old-time logging camps of North America. An after party will take place from 8-11 p.m. near the Centennial Student Union Fountain. Events will include a petting zoo, karaoke and crafts.

Family Weekend is coordinated by the Office of New Student and Family Programs (507-389-5498) and is intended to have Maverick students, parents and family members come together to celebrate. During the weekend, a variety of events are planned by various campus offices and organizations, including the Student Events Team.

The Student Events Team (507-389-6076) is a student-led organization that produces fun, interactive, educational events where students make lifelong memories and celebrate their Maverick pride.
