Oct. 22: Actress, Motivational Speaker Geri Jewell

Mankato, Minn. – Award-winning author, performer and motivational speaker Geri Jewell will speak at Minnesota State University, Mankato at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 in Centennial Student Union’s Ostrander Auditorium.

The event is free and open to the public, and a reception and book signing will immediately follow Jewell’s presentation.

According to her website,, Jewell received worldwide recognition when she became the first person with a disability to be cast in a prime-time series, NBC’s “The Facts of Life.”

Jewell has had many television appearances and earned Emmy consideration as “Jewel” in HBO’s Deadwood.

Jewell is a role model for millions of people with disabilities along with LGBT youth, according to her website, and her autobiography, “I’m Walking as Straight as I Can,” is an honest and bold account of her life.
