Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music News Release, 1-25-2016

Mankato, Minn. -- A variety of different groups will perform on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Minnesota State University, Mankato Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.

Two a cappella vocal groups, Tone Down For What and Maverick Elision, will perform an assortment of arrangements and cover tunes recorded by Pentatonix, Toto, Sia, and Adele.

The Safe Sextet will perform tunes written by two jazz giants, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. The Big Gnome, a contemporary quartet, will perform songs by Robert Johnson and Jimi Hendrix.

Douglas Snapp, director of jazz studies, said of the contemporary groups, ” The students choose their own music, solos, as if they were doing this in the real world, running a group and gigging at a club,” Snapp said. “It’s good experience for them. The groups are totally open and a great place for creativity.”

Concert admission is $9 for general admission seats and $7 for students with a valid MavCARD. Discount tickets are available online for university students. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to For more information, call the Performance Series office, 507-389-5549.
