April 4: University Percussion Ensembles

Spring concert will be held in Halling Recital Hall.

MANKATO, Minn. – The University Percussion Ensembles will present a Spring concert on Monday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. The concert takes place in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.

Michael Thursby, director of athletic bands, coordinates the ensembles.

The evening performance will focus on music from around the world. In a nod to the 2016 Summer Olympics, the ensemble will kick-off the concert with a Brazilian samba. Other selections will feature West African Djembe music and other world music selections.

A number of students will perform solos on the concert, including Sydnie Waldner, Jeremy Friedrichs Jr., Rebecca Friedrichs, Jill Meininger, Joey Chismar-Atkinson, and Cayle Wendorf.

A concert highlight will feature vocalist Stephanie Thorpe performing two pieces from the Cirque du Soliel show, “Mystere.”

Concert admission is $9 for community members, $7 for students with a valid MavCARD. Discount tickets are available online for University students. Advance purchase is strongly encouraged.
