MANKATO – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Theatre & Dance opens its 2016-17 Mainstage season with the hilarious Broadway hit “The Full Monty,” based on the hit British film.

The production opens Sept. 29 and is co-sponsored by Consolidated Communications Community Fund.

Broke and feeling emasculated, the show follows a group of unemployed steelworkers from Buffalo, N.Y., who get the creative idea to become male strippers to make some quick cash. This production is a Minnesota State Mankato premiere and is recommended for mature audiences.

Special preparation went into the show, as the Broadway artist who wrote the music and lyrics for “The Full Monty,” David Yazbek, recently was in residence to work with musical theatre students.

“The Full Monty” runs 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 and Oct. 6-8; and 2 p.m. Oct. 8-9 in the Ted Paul Theatre, Earley Center for Performing Arts, Minnesota State Mankato.

Tickets are $22 regular; $19 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more; and $15 for Minnesota State Mankato students.
