MANKATO – Few theater companies take on the challenge of staging William Shakespeare’s history plays.
But in honor of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, Paul J. Hustoles of Minnesota State University, Mankato's Department of Theatre & Dance wanted to honor the bard with an absolutely massive undertaking: by combining Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part 1; Henry IV, Part 2; and Henry V.
The fruits of Hustoles’ labor – an adaptation he has titled “The Two Henrys” – will be staged in the Ted Paul Theatre 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3-5 and Nov. 10-12; and 2 p.m. Nov. 12 and 13.
Hustoles’ version begins following King Richard’s death. Henry Bolingbroke is now King Henry IV and feels guilty about Richard’s removal. Meanwhile, Wales and Scotland are threatening rebellion and the young Prince Hal is nowhere to be found. This is a Minnesota State Mankato premiere.
Tickets are $16 regular; $14 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more; and $11 for Minnesota State Mankato students.
