Musical Theatre Student Wins National Award
Claire Clauson named top musical theatre actor in the nation.

MANKATO – Claire Clauson (pictured), a graduating Minnesota State University, Mankato bachelor of fine arts musical theatre student, has been named Open Jar Institute’s top musical theatre actor in the nation.
Clauson, from South St. Paul, competed mid-April at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., during the national Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival competition. Out of eight national finalists in the Musical Theatre Intensive competition, Clauson took first place.
She won the Open Jar Institute National Musical Theatre Scholarship for the Broadway Actor Institute, sponsored by KCACTF. The scholarship is worth $3,200.
Clauson earned her place at the national level when she took first place in Musical Theatre Intensive in January at the Region V KCACTF, held in Des Moines, Iowa.
According to its website, Open Jar Institute is “New York City's most Broadway-integrated actor training program. The Open Jar Institute provides select students intensive one-on-one training with Broadway's biggest stars, performers, directors, choreographers, agents and casting directors.”
Clauson most recently appeared in “Aida” at Minnesota State Mankato. She has appeared in numerous other productions, including “The Game’s Afoot,” “The Two Henrys,” “The Full Monty,” “Mary Poppins,” “Titanic” and various others.
