Welcome Home Softball National Champions

The University and local community welcomed the Maverick softball team home Tuesday, May 30 outside the Intergovernmental Center in downtown Mankato.

Mankato, Minn. — A "Welcome Home Celebration" for the NCAA Division II national champion Minnesota State University, Mankato softball team was held Tuesday, May 30 in downtown Mankato on the Grand Lawn in front of the Intergovernmental Center (10 Civic Center Plaza, Mankato, Minn.)

The event, free and open to the public, featured comments from the Minnesota State women's softball team and coaches, along with Minnesota State Mankato administrators and various community dignitaries.

The Mavericks, who completed their historic season with a 64-7 record, defeated Angelo State (Tex.) 5-1 Monday in Salem, Va., in earning the program's first national championship.

In the photo at right, the Maverick softball team arrived in downtown Mankato Tuesday, and members of the team departed their bus holding the team's national championship trophy while a crowd of hundreds waited to celebrate the national title with the team.
