Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship will hold the final round of the 2018 Big Ideas Challenge venture competition Tuesday, April 17 from 2-4:30 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium, located on campus in Centennial Student Union. The winner will be announced at 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The Big Ideas Challenge is a venture competition that encourages students and recent alumni to pursue the “entrepreneurial path.” Six student-entrepreneur groups have been selected finalists in the competition, and they will present their projects to a panel of local judges during Tuesday’s event.

The judges will announce the winning teams and recipients of a total of $15,000 in prizes. Attendees will get to use their phones to vote for their favorite idea. The winner of the audience vote will receive an extra $2,000 “people’s choice award.”

The awards are possible through support and donations by Minnesota State Mankato alumni Pat and Craig Lloyd of Lloyd Companies. Jones Metal is also an event sponsor.

Earlier Tuesday, a series of smaller events will focus on the themes of entrepreneurship and innovation. Events include an 8:30 a.m. fireside chat with Pat and Craig Lloyd at the Centennial Student Union Hearth Lounge. The Lloyds will discuss their new book, “Building Dreams.” There will be a youth entrepreneurship fair at noon on Mav Ave just outside Ostrander Auditorium.
