March 25: Alumnus Frank Jackman to Deliver Schmitz Lecture

Mankato, Minn. – Frank Jackman, co-founder of Local Crate and an alumnus of the College of Business at Minnesota State University, Mankato, will give a presentation titled “Catalyst for Change” Monday, March 25 from 3:30-5 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium, located in Minnesota State Mankato’s Centennial Student Union.

Jackman, who has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Minnesota State Mankato, is the featured 2019 speaker in the Richard Schmitz Food Entrepreneurship Series, held annually by Minnesota State Mankato’s College of Business.

According to a College of Business preview of the event, Jackman “will present in a TED Talk style on how his company is creating a food revolution by providing consumers with local, fresh, high-quality ingredients to help you eat healthier, less processed foods. This locally sourced meal-delivery service provides fresh and seasonal meal kits. Another standout feature is the award-winning chefs that create easy-to-make recipes. All ingredients are locally sourced by our growing region, while reducing food and packaging waste. Local Crate is committed to connecting people to real food and providing a unique culinary experience.”

The Richard R. and Mary L. Schmitz Endowment for Opportunities in Food Entrepreneurship, which was founded in 1999, creates scholarships and supports the annual Richard Schmitz Food Entrepreneurship Series. The series features lectures by industry experts in the category of food entrepreneurship. This includes executives within a broad range of food processing, retailing and wholesaling industries. Some recent lecturers were Dan & Angie Bastian (Angie’s Artisan Treats), Dave Rettig (Rembrandt Foods) and Glenn Stolt (Christensen Farms).

The lectures provide an opportunity for Minnesota State Mankato’s College of Business to engage the growing sector of agri-business with students, alumni and friends in a format that educates the community about growing needs in the agriculture world.
