MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Theatre & Dance continues the Mainstage season with “Shakespeare in Love” in the Ted Paul Theatre at the Earley Center for the Performing Arts.
Based on the Academy Award winning movie, “Shakespeare in Love” tells the story of young William Shakespeare, who is suffering from writer’s block. He meets Viola, who is his greatest admirer and will stop at nothing to appear in his next play. Against a bustling background of mistaken identity, ruthless scheming and backstage theatrics, Will’s love for Viola quickly blossoms and inspires him to write his greatest masterpiece.
Adapted for the stage by Lee Hall, based on the screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard and with music by Paddy Cunneen, director Paul J. Hustoles calls this play “a modern, false, fun, origin story.”
“Shakespeare in Love” runs Oct. 31-Nov. 2 and Nov. 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 9 & 10 at 2 p.m. in the Ted Paul Theatre at the Earley Center for Performing Arts, Minnesota State University, Mankato.
