Concurrent Enrollment Instructor Application Process

High school instructors that would like to teach concurrent enrollment through Minnesota State Mankato must apply. Our campus is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) which requires instructors to meet minimum qualifications. Instructors can be provisionally approved if they do not meet these qualifications, however, all instructors will be required to meet them by September 1, 2023:

  1. Hold a master's degree in the discipline they wish to teach OR;
  2. Hold a master's degree in a field AND have an additional 18 graduate credits in the discipline

A complete application should include:

  1. Minnesota State Mankato Concurrent Enrollment Application
  2. Graduate and Undergraduate transcripts
  3. Current resume and/or vitae

Your application will be reviewed by the PSEO Office to ensure all required materials have been submitted. If the application is complete it will packaged and sent to the academic department of the course you are applying to teach. The Dean of the College will make a recommendation followed by the Office of the Provost making a final decision.

Application Timelines:

We recommend high schools submit applications for new instructors, at least nine (9) months prior to the start date of the course. This provides adequate time for the application to be reviewed and the faculty partner and instructor to align the course.

Graduate Course Options:

Minnesota State Mankato has a number of graduate course options for instructors who need to meet HLC qualifications. You can find an updated list of courses and financial assistance programs on our College of Graduate Studies and Research page.

NACEP Accreditation

Minnesota State Mankato is proud to be accredited through the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP)

What is NACEP Accreditation?

NACEP Accreditation ensures concurrent enrollment courses are offered, and designed, to the same level of rigor as they would be at Minnesota State Mankato. Some highlights of NACEP accreditation include:

  • Prior to teaching a course the high school instructor and faculty will meet to discuss the course learning outcomes, syllabi, and approved textbooks
  • The faculty partner will visit the instructor's classroom to observe the class for student rapport, level of questions, and class orientation. During these visits some faculty will be asked to lecture or assist in the class. Faculty often leave the visit with lesson plan ideas the instructor used.
  • Each year the concurrent enrollment program hosts a professional development day. We update partners on trends, data, and successes from the previous year. They also have the opportunity to meet with their faculty partners to discuss the upcoming year.
  • Courses are transcripted identical to campus courses. NACEP believes if accredited institutions align courses, students should be given appropriate credit for those courses.
