Students interested in living on campus for the 2012-2013 academic year may contact the Department of Residential Life or visit the Residential Life Office at 111 Carkoski Commons. Returning students may not apply online; Returning students must apply using a paper application.
Current students take part in the Room Draw and Room Selection for the opportunity to live on campus in 2012-2013. In this two-part process, students first apply for the Room Draw (October 31-November 13) and then those students randomly selected from the Room Draw have the opportunity to participate in Room Selection.
Due to the limited number of current residents who may return
to live on campus next year, we have implemented a Room Draw
to determine which students will have the opportunity to select a
room during the Room Selection period. Entering your name into
the Room Draw is the first step if you are interested in living
on-campus for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Students may apply for the Room Draw online or complete a Room Draw entry form in the Residential Life office at 111 Carkoski Commons. The Residential Life office is open Monday – Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
There is no fee to enter the Room Draw.
Entering the Room Draw does not obligate you to live on campus next year, nor does it guarantee that you will be offered an opportunity to choose a room.
You may request up to three current residents of the same gender to live with you next year. If your name is drawn for the opportunity to select a room, the students you list below will also have the opportunity to sign up. A student requested as a roommate, etc. may also enter the drawing separately.
On November 14-15, we will randomly draw the names of the 250 students eligible to participate in Room Selection. On November 16, we will notify you via your Minnesota State Mankato email account if you have the opportunity to select a room or if you have been placed on our returning student wait list. Please watch your email for this notification. If you have not logged into your email or are not receiving email sent to your mnsu.edu email address, we suggest you contact the Help Desk at 507-389-6654 for assistance.
We will place your name on our waiting list in Room Draw order if you do not have the opportunity to sign up during Room Selection. In February we will provide students on the waiting list with an update about any plans we may have to offer out additional spaces to current residents.
Students selected from the Room Draw will have the opportunity to choose a room beginning November 21 at 9:00 a.m. online or in the Residential Life office. Those students will have until midnight on Tuesday, January 31 to select a room. Those students may view online which rooms are available prior to submitting your prepayment. A prepayment of $250 and agreement to the 2012-2013 Housing Contract terms will be required to finalize the room reservation. If you want to make a prepayment by cash, check or money order, please come to the Residential Life Office, 111 Carkoski Commons, to make the payment prior to choosing your room online.
If your plans change after you sign up for a room next year, you may cancel your housing contract through August 22, 2012. If the contract is canceled on or before July 1, 2012, $200 of the $250 prepayment is refunded. None of the prepayment will be refunded after July 1. Cancellations will not be accepted after August 22. All cancellations must be in writing, completed online, or sent through e-mail. Cancellation forms are also available at the Residential Life office.
When you sign up online, you may hold the other space in your room for another current student who has not yet signed up. You will need the other student's name and TechID to enter into the application. When the other student becomes eligible for Room Selection and logs in to the housing application, they will see that they have "an invitation" from you. If you do not request a specific roommate, the other space in the room you have chosen will be available to other students signing up online. You may hold spaces for current Minnesota State Mankato students only. We will release a held space if the student has not yet signed up or does not become eligible for Room Selection by Friday, May 10.
We encourage you to sign up with a roommate, suitemates, or apartment-mates of your choice. After the Room Selection process, Residential Life staff will assign students to rooms, suites, and apartments with empty spaces.
Applying for special on-campus housing accommodations based on medical need: In compliance with Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Minnesota State University, Mankato students with documented disabilities may request special housing accommodations. These requests will be evaluated within the context of current housing policies, students' needs, and available facilities. In order for such housing accommodation requests to be considered, students must first be registered with the Minnesota State Mankato Office of Disability Services. To register with ODS, submit your own brief written explanation of your particular disability and why it requires some form of specialized housing consideration to the Office of Disability Services, 132 Memorial Library, Mankato, MN 56001. The Disability Services staff will then instruct you on the documentation process and determine what accommodations you are eligible to receive. For full consideration, requests for special accommodations based on medical need must be received by May 15 for housing beginning fall semester.
