The Program Advisor is a member of the Leadership Team alongside:

  • Area Directors
  • Student Success Coordinator
  • Associate Director

The Program Advisor also serves on:

  • Residential Education or "Res Ed" Team (Leadership Team and Hall Directors)

The Program Advisor has a voice in many different meetings and initiatives and is a valued colleague to many different staff in our department.

"As the Program Advisor, through your work with RHA (Residence Hall Association) and NRHH (National Residence Hall Honorary) you have great influence on our student leaders, as they make their mark on this campus through their personal journey as on-campus student leaders...

The Program Advisor carries out a vision of leadership develpment by coordinating developmental initiatives with our emerging Residential Life student leaders.  The Leadership Kickoff each September helps kick-start the Community Council program; an initiative that impacts every floor Community Council throughout campus.

The Leadership experience (Class) is another component of the Program Advisor's role that has an important place in our department's leadership development efforts.  The impact of this course, which is facilitated by the Program Advisor and a Hall Director, positively impacts our student leaders at many levels including Community Council leaders, RHA leaders, NRHH leaders, and those emerging leaders who aspire to become a Community Advisor in the future.

As a colleague on the Residential Education Leadership Team, I have come to value the effort and the support that the Program Advisor offers my area team's efforts to develop community and develop emerging leaders within the McElroy Residence Community.  I look forward to working with future professionals who will continue to serve this important role for our department."

- Jamie Van Boxel, Area Director
