  • Designated team must provide a scorekeeper, libero tracker, scoreboard operator, R1, R2 and two line judges for each match. A coach must be either the R1 or R2. Failure to provide an officiating crew for your assigned matches will result in a forfeit of the first game of next match. All officating forms and writing utensils will be provided. Please bring your own whistle.

    • TC  = Taylor Center
    • SG  = Schellberg Gym
    • Otto =  Otto Recreation Center

Convenient campus parking is FREE on weekends in Lots 5, 8,9 or 20a. Do not park in University Square. They will ticket non-patrons.

For the teams playing in Otto Rec Center, nobody is allowed on the upper level of the gym or on any gym equipment. We are aware of the limited space on the gym courts, but spectators cannot view the games from above. Additionally, stay off the lower level stationary bikes along with all other gym equipment. Spectators that don’t abide by the rules will not be allowed to continue watching in the gym. Teams that don’t follow the rules will result in lowest pool play seeding. If you have questions or concerns, I can be found in Taylor Center next to the scores and brackets.

  • No coaches meeting will take place prior to the tournament. Please read the confirmation email, website and/or schedule for all rules, formats and information. Please speak with the Tournament Site Director if you have any questions.

It is the responsibility of each team to arrive on time for each match. Any delay in start time will result in a forfeit of game one, followed by a 5-minute wait period. If team does not show after the wait period, the second game is forfeit and the match is over.

Your roster does not need to be summitted and teams should report to designated court listed on schedule and prepare for warm-ups or officiating duties.

      • Pools of 4: 2 sets, 25-25 (cap 27)
      • Pools of 3: 3 sets, 25-25-25 (cap 27)
      • Pool Points will be awarded for wins, but number of points will depend on pool sizes.
      • Point differential will recorded as an aid in seeding placement
      • Official format will be listed on tournament schedules. It varies based on registration numbers.

    • Bracket Play: Best 2 of 3, 25-25-15 (no cap)

    • Tournament seeding
      • Seeding will be based on: 1) Most Pool Points, 2) +/- Points 3) Coin Flip
      • Detailed seeding information will be listed on bracket schedule
      • Teams are not guaranteed a spot in tournament play

  • The libero is allowed to serve.

The tournament will follow the “Pursuit Rule” meaning play is automatically stopped when a player from one court crosses into another or enters the seating area.

It is the judgment call of the R1 and/or R2 if the rally was impeded based on an overhead obstruction. If ball was heading out, the point is awarded. If the rally was obstructed, a replay is called.

A replay is called only when 1) rally is impeded by an overhead obstruction, 2) ball from another court interferes with play (if it does not, no whistle is made), or 3) the R1/R2 determines it appropriate based on an errant call.

  • Tournament Start time is listed on the individual Tournament Schedule. Warm-ups are to be conducted prior to start time. Example: Start time of 8am; Warm-ups begin at 7:50am.  Doors will open at 7:30.

4-4-2 Format (serving team - receiving team - shared) To ensure a smooth and efficient tournament, please make sure to start warm-ups immediately following the conclusion of the prior match.

  • Each team is responsible for bringing their own volleyball for warm-ups. A Molten game ball will be provided for each court.

Teams are responsible for bringing their own med-kit. Athletic trainers will not be on site.

  • Refunds are not issued unless a replacement team is found.

  • MSU JO Volleyball Tournaments are not associated with NCR or JVA; however, we will be following similar guidelines of allowing youth boys to play on girls’ teams up to the age of 14. Teams the age of 14 and under are eligible to have one boy on their team.

If a boy is on the team, the Club Director or Coach MUST contact the Tournament Director to request to play in a tournament. The Tournament Director may accept or deny the request.
