Mavs in Action

We are looking for motivated students who are interested in planning and implementing future service events. If you would like to join the team of students who work behind the scenes to put on volunteer and community engagement events, we meet in CSU 238 every Thursday at 4 pm. We also do some form of community service project at nearly every meeting.

Alternative Spring Break

Volunteer. Travel. Connect.

Apply for ASB 2024!

Every year, a group of Minnesota State University, Mankato students travel to a different location to spend their spring break volunteering on a local service project. Past trips have included repairing houses with Habitat for Humanity and maintaining music and art facilities for homeless youth.

The 2017 Alternative Spring Break was in Winnipeg, Canada! Participants volunteered with a local nonprofit agency assisting refugees and helping teach English classes. Each year is a potentially life-changing service experience. Even during the pandemic, we had a great ASB experience right here in Mankato.

The total cost of the trip is typically around $350 per person, although each site is different.

Kansas City, Missouri was the destination for the 2020 ASB trip. The group volunteered at the zoo, at a community garden, for Habitat for Humanity, and more. Interested in the 2024 trip? We are headed back to Kansas City to serve in a variety of locations! Cost depends on how many people sign up; apply via the Mav Central link; to pay sign up after November 2023 to ensure there is enough space for you.
