As an Assistant Director of Student Activities, Emi is passionate about helping students make the most of their college experiences. It’s no secret that Emi has always been passionate about student involvement-- when she was in college, she always introduced herself by joking that she was double-majoring in extracurricular activities. Emi was heavily involved and held leadership roles in multiple student organizations, an active member of a sorority, served for three years as an orientation leader, and worked for four years as a campus tour guide.

After graduating with her bachelor’s degree, Emi spent two years working as a tech trainer for a Fortune 100 company. Emi's time as a tech trainer was where she realized her passion for experiential education, so in 2016 she left to pursue a career in student affairs.

She earned her Master’s of Science in Counseling and Student Personnel – College Student Affairs from MSU, Mankato in 2018; during that time, she worked as a graduate assistant in New Student and Family programs and completed an additional internship as a graduate advisor in Student Activities. After completing her master’s degree, she joined the University Admissions team as an Admissions Officer before she returned to the Student Activities team in November 2018 as an Assistant Director.

Currently, Emi serves as the primary resource for campus in the areas of Recognized Student Organizations, Leadership programming, Engage, and Nontraditional Student Resources.

As the primary resource for Recognized Student Organizations, Emi advises, directs, and supports 220+ RSOs, their executive members, and their faculty/staff advisors on everything regarding University policies and procedures, resources available to RSOs, effective programming, best practices for running RSOs, and ways to facilitate student leadership development. She also oversees all programming for RSOs and the RSO recognition process.

Because her role works closely with all 220+ RSOs, Emi also serves as the community administrator for Engage (the organization management platform). Emi provides support and training for students and staff in using the platform to manage involvement opportunities across campus.

Beyond RSOs, Emi also advises the Maverick Involvement Team; the Maverick Involvement Team is a student-led program that seeks to empower students to discover and enhance their authentic inner-leader through peer discussion, activity, and support. The Maverick Involvement Team offers weekly workshops, leadership certificates, a leadership retreat, and other opportunities for leadership development.

In addition to her roles with RSOs and Leadership U, Emi also oversees the Nontraditional Student Resources program, which serves over 3,000 students on campus each year. Nontraditional students are defined as any student who is over 24 years old, is pregnant or a parent, is married/divorced, commutes over 15 miles to campus, or who is current military/veteran student. Emi manages the Nontraditional Student Resource Space (located in CSU 042, across from the bullpen), provides advising for resources that benefit nontraditional students, and oversees programming designated particularly for nontraditional students.

When she’s not on campus, you can find Emi with her partner Nate, their dog Medli, and their two cats, Loki and Ghost. She also enjoys photography, hiking, yoga, baking, singing in choir, baking, working on DIY projects, and playing video games!
