Emergency Closing

Statement

Due to weather conditions or other emergencies, the cancellation of classes/events may occur, or the campus may close. Notification of class cancellations or campus closures will be placed on the University website, through text messages, and provided to local media. Notification of event cancellations will be the responsibility of event sponsors if the campus isn’t officially closed.

Procedures

When classes are officially canceled, efforts will be made to maintain scheduled events and services in the Centennial Student Union. When the campus is officially closed, scheduled events are subject to the campus closure and the Centennial Student Union will determine how scheduled events and services are concluded.

Sponsors of events are encouraged to develop a means of directly notifying participants of the status of events impacted by cancellations or campus closures. Please contact University Scheduling and Conference Services when canceling an event.

The Centennial Student Union reserves the right to limit access to its facilities or cancel an event due to safety, security, disruptive conduct, and/or suspected violations of law or University policy.

Rationale

Since the nature of emergencies varies, there is a need to determine with each occurrence, what services will be available and what events will take place as scheduled. Additionally, this policy recognizes the need to maintain the availability of essential services that support the safety and well-being of the campus community and the integrity and security of University facilities.
