Audience: open to MNSU employees and students

Registration is free.

Our goal is to provide practical information and help people explore different ways of thinking about disability, particularly as they work and study in higher education. Each session is open to beginners who are just learning about these topics. These disability conversations are intended as a sequential series of events, but drop-in attendance is also welcome.

  • January 27 - Americans with Disabilities Act (Dr. Andy Johnson, speaker). Learn the basics of who this civil rights law applies to and what the definition of disability is under the ADA; what a “reasonable accommodation” is; how the ADA covers university work and schooling; and where to go for more information.
  • February 17 - ADA discussion (Alex J. Lucier, facilitator). Discuss how the ADA can be incorporated into the classroom and workplace.
  • March 31 - Disability Justice (Jessica Schomberg, speaker). Learn how the definition of disability is different in this model; the 10 principles of Disability Justice; and ways Disability Justice can impact work and learning.
  • April 28 - Disability Justice discussion (Dr. Dani Scott, facilitator). Discuss possible ways to incorporate Disability Justice principles in teaching and learning.
