Groove Your Health


Week 1

Bonus point events:

  • Monday, 4/2, Brown Bag Book Club, 12:00-1:00, CSU 256
    • We will be discussing Brooke Shield’s book, Down Came the Rain:  My Journey through Postpartum Depression, and postpartum depression in general.  You do not have to read the book to attend.  Bring your lunch!  Come for at least 30 minutes to get your points.
  • Wednesday, 4/4, Relaxation Session with Jen Myers, 12:00-12:30 or 12:30-1:00, PH104

Bonus point habit: 

  • Meditate at least 10 minutes each day. 

Week 2

Bonus point events:

  • Wednesday, 4/11, Beginning Salsa Dancing, 12:00-1:00, PH104
  • No partners or experience needed!  This can be an individual dance.  Can be counted as minutes towards your exercise, too!  Come for at least 30 minutes to get your points.

Bonus point habit: 

  • Do not drink beverages considered to be pop/soda/soft drinks or beer.  Drink water, milk, or fruit/vegetable juice instead!

Week 3

Bonus point events:

  • Trash Cleanup over lunch hour – INFORMATION TO COME

Bonus point habit: 

  • Celebrate the week of Earth Day by spending at least 20 minutes outside each day.

Week 4

Bonus point events:

  • Monday, 4/23, Poker Walk
  • 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. 
  • Find the Wellness table near the fountain and pick up your 1st card and a map.  You will then take a walk around campus and pick up 4 more cards at different stations.  At the end of the day we will give prizes to the top five hands.  Please allow about 30 minutes.
  • Wednesday, 4/25, Weight Room
  • 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • The Otto weight room will be open for faculty and staff between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.  Jen Myers will introduce you to the weight room and answer any questions you have, and then you are free to lift!  Meet at the Campus Recreation desk.  

Bonus point habit: 

  • Keeping your house, car, garage, or yard clean and organized is good for your mental health.
  • Spend at least 2 hours this week tidying and organizing.

  • The Minnesota State University, Mankato Employee Wellness Committee’s four-week health challenge, Groove Your Health, begins on April 2nd. This year’s challenge will focus on physical activity, diet, and sleep.
  • All MSU faculty and staff are invited to take part.
  • Everyone who participates will be invited to a free lunch reception on May Day, May 1st, where awards and over 100 door prizes will be handed out. Those on the three highest scoring teams will receive blue “do.” winter hats.
  • To kick it off, watch for the Groove your Health prize crew out and about on April 2nd, handing out gifts to employees who are caught being active. Make sure to climb the stairs, exercise during your lunch hour, and hold walking meetings so that you may end up with a groovy prize! There will also be a radar machine on campus that week, which will display the miles per hour of passersby.
  • Groove your Health participants will keep track of their total daily minutes of aerobic activity, servings of fruits and vegetables, and hours of sleep. Each week, participants will report their points to their team captain. The average points of each team will be posted on the Wellness website weekly.
  • Two opportunities for bonus points will be available each week. One will be a habit, such as not drinking pop. The second will be to attend at least one Wellness Committee event during the week.
