Description
The Dance program offers students degree options grounded in the liberal arts tradition. Students learn about the depth and breadth of dance as they practice their art form in multiple arenas. The curriculum is designed to balance students’ artistic experiences with practical applications to better prepare them to enter the dance world upon graduation. Students receive a comprehensive education that readies them for a lifetime in dance, including: teaching, performing, bodywork, choreographing, dance therapy, writing, dance technology, and dance production. Through an audition and adjudication process, students have many opportunities to present their choreographic work and/or perform in four concerts each year. Students can audition to perform in musical theatre productions. Whatever their chosen path in dance, students emerge with multiple skills and the ability to think critically and act globally as emerging dance artists.

Policies & Faculty
Policies
Admission to Dance BA or Dance BS is open. Contact the department for admission to the major.
Admission to the Dance BFA is competitive and selective to ensure individual attention necessary for effective professional preparation and training.
Students audition and interview for admission to the program. Students participate in a dance class and prepare a 1-minute solo dance. Standards for evaluating the audition are:
- Technical proficiency
- Artistry
- Professional goals
Auditions are held late summer in spring semester.
GPA Policy. All dance majors must maintain a "C" average. BFA students must maintain a GPA of 3.0.
Dance BFA Progressive Retention Standards
All students admitted to BFA are reviewed every semester in the program. Students meet with the Dance faculty to review progress and evaluate the student's status. BFA students are required to:
- Demonstrate appropriate progress in production, performance, and academic work at end-of-semester evaluations.
- Audition for all faculty and guest artist work.
- Demonstrate appropriate professional behavior in class and production work.
- 4Must participate in 2 dance concerts per academic year.
P/N Grading Policy. Required courses must be taken for a grade.

Along with western European contributions, the legacies and traditions associated with the African diaspora, North American indigenous populations, vernacular and folk forms will also will be included.
