Travel Signature Requirement

You must have a valid travel signature on your I-20 or DS-2019 to return to the U.S. after travel abroad. Get the signature from your immigration advisor before you travel abroad!

  • Each signature is valid for one year. (If you’re on OPT, the travel signature will be valid for six months)

  • The signature by your immigration advisor confirms you are maintaining your F-1 or J-1 status.

  • A travel signature is required for returning to the U.S.

  • If your current travel signature will expire before you return to the U.S., you must request an updated signature before you depart.

  • The travel signature is on page 2 of your I-20 or the front page of your DS-2019.

How to Obtain a Travel Signature

Complete the Travel Signature Request form and leave the form along with your I-20/DS-2019 at the Kearney Center front desk. Please expect it to take 1-2 business days to process. You will receive an email to pick-up your signed I-20/DS-2019 when it is available.

If you live outside the Mankato area, you may mail your I-20/DS-2019 and the Travel Signature Request form to our office. We will mail it back to the address you’ve provided on the form.

If you have an emergency travel need and the Kearney Center is closed for the weekend or holiday, you may leave the U.S. and request the KC to send you a new I-20 with the travel signature by completing the Travel Signature Request form and indicate you need a new one. Arrange for shipping at your expense using eShipGlobal Inc.
