Benefits of a Fitness Assessment:

  • Provide you with baseline information of your current fitness level
  • Utilize baseline information to help you chart your progress
  • Increase the likelihood of starting and continuing a fitness program with goal setting and accountability

Components of a Fitness Assessment:

  • Medical history evaluation
  • Blood pressure, heart rate, and weight will be taken
  • Coronary artery disease and cardiovascular disease evaluations by waist-to-hip ratio and ACSM Risk Stratification guidelines
  • Body composition tested by bioelectrical impedance
  • Cardiorespiratory endurance tested by bicycle, treadmill, or elliptical test
  • Muscular strength and endurance tested by completion of push-ups, 1/2 curls ups, and a wall sit
  • Flexibility of lower back, hamstrings, and shoulders will be tested
  • Discussion about SMART goals
  • You will be provided with a summary of your fitness assessment results for both pre and post assessments via email
  • Fitness assessment fee includes both pre and post assessments

Fitness assessments are available for current students, faculty, staff, alumni, emeritus, spouses of the before mentioned, and donors. 

Anyone interested in purchasing any personal training package or exercise plan must pay for and complete a fitness assessment. 

You do not need an Otto Recreation Center membership to purchase and complete a fitness assessment.

How do I set up a Fitness Assessment Appointment?

  • Pay online and you will be contacted via email to set up an appointment.
    • $20 for students
    • $30 for non-students

Required Forms for a Fitness Assessment:

  • Medical History Questionnaire
    • Email a copy of your completed medical history form to before your fitness assessment.
      • Depending on the information provided on your form, clearance from a medical provider may be required before completing a fitness assessment and/or meeting with a personal trainer.

Equipment Orientation

A free, optional orientation is available to show individuals how to operate equipment in the Otto Recreation Center.
