Hi again, Bob:

The 1% is yet another one of those frequnecy issues, and as I said, frequency alone is a terrible indicator. I know of some covert-interiorized PWS who only stutter a couple of times per day, but change words, paraphrease, elect not to talk, refuse to talk, give wrong answers... etc.... They could likely pass that interview situation at the 1% level.

I worked with a client a while back who stuttered about once per hour, but when she did stutter, she had an unbelievably tense and struggled stutering event that would last about 30 seconds.

I think that the behaviorists who seek .5 stuttered syllables per minute of some such criteria miss out on the issue of SEVERITY. Disfluencies can be fairly frequent, but of short duration and minimal tension/effort, and the stuttering is judged as mild. Disfluencies can be fairly infrequent, but judged to be severe if they are long in duration and accompanied by significant effort/struggle....

Ah well. Enuf for now... I don't want to belabor the point and put people to sleep. I'll keep watching this thread develop, and maybe reply again later.

Thanks again, Bob, for a fine paper.
