Good question. I'll need to ask my mother if I stuttered in German -- I never thought about that! I "suspect" that trying to be fluent in two languages -- or going back and forth -- might have been contributed to my stuttering (I was 4 when I returned to the States); my mother assures me, however, that she tried (since my parents are Americans) to let me speak English; afterall, by that time we were in the States. My personal belief is that in MY case, stuttering had an emotional underpining (considering that I wet the bed occasionally until I was 10); and because I also have a somewhat "hyper" personality today, evidenced by my rapid (conversational) speech at times (I was described recently by someone not knowing my background as coming off as a "used car" salesman!) Thanks for your comments -- really appreciated. And it's interesting to note that I'm not the only one that got speech therapy as I went from one language to another. Hope you're doing well today.
