I found this to be an extremely refreshing article. I think that listening is an action that a lot of people take for granted. There is a distinct difference between active and passive listening - and I think most people engage in the latter. As a person living with a hearing impairment, I have come to realize just how much effort actually does go into active listening. Anyway, I am doing a post-baccalaureate speech pathology program at Western Washington University and I am just beginning to learn about stuttering. Prior to this I had always been under the impression that active listening would make a person who stutters uncomfortable, which in turn would result in them stuttering more. Am I completely wrong in my assumption?
