Things to Bring

Refrigerators

Compact refrigerators are available for rent on a semester or academic year basis. An authorized vendor will be available within the halls during the first few days of each semester. Any refrigerator not obtained from an authorized vendor must be in good working condition, must have a rated amperage of between 1.4 and 3.6 and is subject to inspection. Full-size refrigerators are not permitted.

Telephones

All student rooms have a private telephone line and jack. You should bring your own phone. Two numbers will be assigned to you: Your regular phone number, which should be given to friends and family in order to call you, and a personal authorization code you can use when you make a long distance call. The personal authorization code should be kept confidential to ensure that you are billed only for the calls you make.

Television/Stereo Cable

Each residence hall room is equipped with a cable television/stereo hook-up. You should provide your own coaxial cable. The cost of the basic cable service (72 television and 25 FM radio channels) and HBO are included in your room and board charges.

Direct Online Access to the Internet

Residents in all communities are able to access the Minnesota State Mankato computer systems and the internet from two outlets in their room. If you have a computer, all you will need is the appropriate hardware/adapter and software. There is no additional cost to use this service. If you have a Windows-based PC, you will need: Pentium 166 or faster Windows 98/NT/ME/2000/XP 64 MB of RAM (minimum) 150 MB of free hard drive space 10/100 base-T Ethernet adapter (NIC) (laptop users must provide their own 10/100 base-T Ethernet adapter) If you have a Macintosh, you will need: MacOS 8.6 or newer 64 MB of RAM (minimum) 10/100 base-T Ethernet adapter (NIC) TCP/IP control panel present with DHCP server support The above items are readily available at most computer supply stores.

Electrical Appliances

The Department of Residential Live reserves the right to restrict appliances that pose a danger to the residence halls. Specifically, the following appliances are not allowed: charcoal grills, gas grills, microwaves over 600 watts, refrigerators over 3.6 amps, toaster ovens, freezers, halogen lamps and appliances with an open heating element or flame.
