You may be wondering what that "loud noise and steam" are coming from lately on campus. High pressure boilers are used on campus to generate heat for our buildings. When it is cold outside, more steam is generated and needs to be released until the pressure is balanced. When that happens, steam is blown from the plant stack and produces a loud sound and the plume is when the hot water steam hits the cold air. This is not on any specific schedule as it is most often when an additional boiler is needed and that is not always projected.
Spring semester is a time to start seriously thinking about housing for next year. While not every student can return to the residence halls next year, there are many options available near campus. Current residents are welcome to visit the Residential Life website to help you understand these options.
Some of you may have attended the Housing Fair hosted by Student Activities yesterday. Each year they provide information about off-campus housing options for students. The next housing fair is scheduled for Tuesday, February 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Centennial Student Union. Students can also find out about off-campus housing options online at mnsu.edu/activities/housing/, including a list of Mankato apartment complexes and a searchable database.
After January 24 you may request a room change at the front desk of your community.
