Miss Representation Film Screening

Sponsored by The violence  Awareness and Response Program and The Women's Center with the Assistance of Residential Life

Minnesota State University, Mankato will be presenting Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) Programs during the month of April.  The Violence Awareness and Response Program and the Women's Center are proud to host programs and events all month long.  The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals about prevention of sexual violence.  Planning and implementation of these programs were made possible with assistance from: MSU's Department of Residential Life, Committee Against Domestic Abuse, The MSU student group "Men Against Violence," The Office of Affirmative Action, the LGBT Center, La Mano and Student Health Services.

Wednesday, April 4, 7:00 p.m. - Ostrander Auditorium - Like drawing back a curtain to let bright light stream in, Miss Representation uncovers a glaring reality we live with every day but fail to see.  This film explores how the media's misrepresentations of women have  led to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence.  Entertainment Weekly called film, "Inspiring" and Variety wrote, "An admirable work of media literacy education."
