Kelly, I believe that the lack of awareness often quoted in the literature regarding cluttering refers to a lack of monitoring detailed aspects of speech production and quality of the message spoken. Awareness in a more general sense is often experienced like awareness of not being very successful with communication or loosing the listener. In other words there may be different forms of awareness and about different aspects of communication.
