Dropbox

The Dropbox is useful tool that creates a container for students to submit their assignments. Instructors may create folders for each assignment, and can retrieve assignments from those folders once they are submitted. Some of the main features of Dropbox are as listed below:

  • Create dropbox folder for students to submit their assignments
  • Edit/Delete dropbox folder
  • Download the files submitted
  • Leave feedback and send email to those who have not submitted

Create dropbox folder

In order to create a Dropbox folder follow these steps:

  1. Click the Dropbox link located on the course navigation bar.
  2. Click the Admin button.
  3. Click the Add Folder button. You will reach the page shown in Figure 1.
  4. Type the Dropbox folder name in the box labeled Folder Name.
  5. Choose a Category for the Dropbox. You may create one by clicking the Add Category link.
  6. Choose the Grade Item you want associated with the Dropbox folder. You can create a new assessment item by clicking the Add Grade Item link.
  7. Type any additional instructions in the Custom Instructions box.
  8. Specify the Start Date and End Date to restrict the submission date.
  9. If you specified a Start Date and End date, you may choose to add the event to the Calendar.
  10. Click the Submit button.

Edit Dropbox Folder

To edit a previously created Dropbox folder follow these steps:

  1. Click the Dropbox link located on the course navigation bar,
  2. Click the Admin button.
  3. Click the Edit Pencil icon icon corresponding to the Dropbox folder you wish to edit
  4. Make the necessary changes.
  5. Click the Submit button

Delete Dropbox folder

  1. Click the Dropbox link located on the course navigation bar.
  2. Click the Admin button.
  3. Click the Delete Trash icon icon corresponding to the Dropbox folder you want to delete.
  4. Click OK on the alert window to confirm delete.

Download/View submitted files

In order to view the files that you have uploaded, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Dropbox link located on the course navigation bar.
  2. Click the title of the Dropbox folder you wish to view.
  3. Select the files you would like to download by placing a check in the box next to the desired file(s).
  4. Click the Download button to save the file on your computer hard disk.
  5. A Zip file will be created and you will be prompted to save or open the file.

Mark Read/ Flag

In order to mark the files you have read for future reference follow the directions below:

  1. Click the Dropbox link located on the course navigation bar,
  2. Click on the Dropbox folder you wish to view.
  3. Place a check in the box next to file names that you wish to mark read/flag.
  4. Click the Mark Read or Flag button.
  5. A small flag icon will appear to indicate the file has been flagged.

Leave Feedback

  1. Click the Dropbox link located on the course navigation bar,
  2. Click on the Dropbox folder that you wish to leave feedback for.
  3. Click the Leave Feedback link for the student you would like to leave feedback for. A new page will appear where you can add comments.
  4. If the Dropbox item has a grade item attached, you will be able to give a grade and comments for the grade. Grade Feedback appear when students view their grades and Feedback appears in the area where students submitted their dropbox entry. You can only grade each student once for each folder, no matter how many things they turn into that one folder.
  5. If you wish to upload an attachment with the feedback, you may do so by clicking the Browse button and choosing the appropriate files.
  6. Click the Submit button.
