Glossary

Desire2Learn, MNSU

Glossary is very useful tool to enter the definition and explanation of the terms used in the course. A few of the major features of the Glossary are as follows:

  • Add new items
  • Import multiple items
  • Delete items

Add New Item

  1. Click Glossary link located on the course navigation bar. A Glossary pop-up window will appear.
  2. Click the Administration link in the upper left area of Glossary window.
  3. Click the Add New Item link. The window as shown in Figure 1 will appear.
  4. Type the glossary term in the Term text box.
  5. Add a definition of the term in the Definition text box. If you would like the text to appear as HTML, select the box beside Is HTML.
  6. If you would like the glossary term to link to a content topic, select the topic from the dropdown box.
    You must have the content topic already created to link the glossary item to it.

  7. Click the Submit button.

Import Multiple Items

This option allows you to import multiple glossary items from a file. The file needs to be in Excel format with the items laid out in the pattern as displayed in the template file.

  1. Click Glossary link located on the course navigation bar. A Glossary pop-up window will appear.
  2. Click the Administration link in the upper left area of Glossary window.
  3. Click on Import Multiple Items. The window shown in Figure 2 will appear.
  4. Browse for the file that is to be imported
  5. After done click Upload to upload the file.

Delete Items

  1. Click Glossary link located on the course navigation bar. A Glossary pop-up window will appear.
  2. Click the Administration link in the upper left area of Glossary window.
  3. Click on the check box to each glossary items that you want to delete
  4. Click on the Delete Selected Trash icon button.
  5. The selected glossary items will be deleted.
