“Sharing my passion with my students makes each day a true joy. My goal is to provide students and singers with musical experiences that will profoundly enrich their lives.
As a composer, I strive to create musical poetry for a wide audience of singers, choirs, and audiences.”
David’s early influences include Robert Petker, a teacher who encouraged his career. Dr. Dickau worked as a church musician while pursuing a Master’s Degree at Northwestern University, and taught for two years at South High School in Bakersfield, California, where he received the Outstanding Teacher Award. David completed his doctorate in Choral Music at the University of Southern California in 1986, and met two mentors who would have the greatest influence on his work: Rodney Eichenberger (choral conducting) and Morton Lauridsen (composition). During this time, David conducted the first of six performances at ACDA national and regional conferences.
