Minnesota State, Mankato Department of Music Auditions

Auditions for Entrance into the Music Major and Private Studios:

Students are expected to audition for acceptance into the major on an individual basis by prior arrangement with the Department of Music Office. Acceptance into the major also requires a diagnostic theory exam. Students auditioning for a music scholarship are considered for the music major or minor through that audition.

Vocal Auditions: Prepare a song that would be appropriate for contest. An accompanist will be provided. (If you are unsure of appropriate repertory, consult your choir director).

Instrumental Auditions: Prepare two contrasting sections of a solo, solos, or etudes. (Consult your band or orchestra director if you are unsure of appropriate repertory).

BM in Piano Performance: Prepare three memorized contrasting works from different historical periods. Please bring a list of repertoire studied and performed during the last two years to your audition.

BM in Organ Performance: For the Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance, prepare three memorized contrasting works from different historical periods. Please bring to your audition a list of repertoire you have studied and performed during the last two years.

Guitar: Guitarists should prepare a piece of music that is comparable to these excerpts (31KB PDF).
