The Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre & Dance offers a variety of comprehensive degree programs for all interest levels. In addition to a complete slate of coursework, the department's aggressive performance schedule is perfect for learning by doing.

Student technicians get the opportunity to contribute to productions immediately, with possibilities limited only by their ability to learn and excel. Four Studio shows each year are designed by students, and those who show the skills may be tapped to design lights, sound, costumes or sets for a Mainstage production. In addition, stage and house management positions always go to students, with progressively challenging assignments made as skills are proven. Actors' achievements are rewarded with larger and more frequent castings.

Dance students may progress from being members of a piece to, ultimately, choreographers and designers. The two fully mounted concerts each year provide ample opportunity to take skills learned in the classroom and put them in the spotlight on the stage.

Involvement in productions is recommended for all, with a variety of experiences required for those pursuing the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree.
