April 22: Earth Day Festival

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato will host an Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. that will celebrate the diverse environmental research conducted by the University’s campus community.

The Earth Day Festival is free and open to the public, and “kid-friendly” activities will be available. Attendees are invited to learn about geology, geography, soil science, botany, water quality, anthropology, archeology and parks and regional planning through hands-on demonstrations and interactive indoor and outdoor stations.

The Earth Day Festival will be held in the University’s Schellberg Gym and nearby courtyard between Trafton Science Center, Armstrong Hall, Morris Hall and Myers Field House (Room 118). Campus maps are available here.

All attendees are welcome to work on arts and crafts, such as making a wildflower seed ball or helping to create a butterfly migration, meandering river art installations and more.

The University’s Water Resources Center is coordinating the Earth Day Festival, and departments from across the University are collaborating on it. The event is planned in conjunction with the Southern Minnesota Regional Science & Engineering Fair, which is also being held Saturday on campus.
