MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music & Entertainment Industries will feature performer Eric Marienthal in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 14 in Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Avenue. The concert is part of the department’s annual JazzFest activities.

In addition to his evening performance, Marienthal will give instructional feedback to high school jazz bands from Farmington High School and Eden Prairie High School along with the University’s Jazz Mavericks. The Jazz Mavericks are directed by Douglas Snapp, director of jazz studies. 

Marienthal is a two-time Grammy award winning and nine-time Grammy nominated saxophonist from Southern California. He studied at the Berklee College of Music and received the Berklee Distinguished Alumnus Award. Marienthal has performed with artists such as Elton John, Barbara Streisand, Bill Joel and Stevie Wonder, to name a few. He has performed in 75 different countries, recorded 14 solo records, has written three instructional books, and three instructional videos that have been published by Warner Bros. Along with that, he has also played on hundreds of other records, films, TV shows and commercial jingles.

Marienthal’s music has made it to the top 10 list for the National Contemporary Jazz Radio Charts, with three of these being at number one. He was voted as one of Jazziz Magazine’s “Favorite Alto Sax Players.” For over two decades, Marienthal has put on fundraising concerts to support the non-profit organization High Hopes to help those who have suffered traumatic head injuries. These concerts have raised over $2 million for the charity.
