Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Corrections Program is sponsoring a screening of the documentary film “UNTOUCHABLE,” a film about sex offender laws, followed by a panel discussion Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 5-6:45 p.m. in the University’s Taylor Center, Room 80.

The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. For further information, contact mnsorp5@gmail.com or call 612-666-9892. A panel discussion of probation officers who supervise those convicted of sex offenses will follow the film.

“UNTOUCHABLE” is a documentary film directed by David Feige, who was honored with a 2016 Tribeca Film Festival new documentary director award for the film. According to a synopsis of the documentary on the film’s website:

“When the most powerful lobbyist in Florida discovers that the nanny has sexually abused his daughter, he harnesses his extraordinary political power to pass the toughest sex offender laws in the nation. ‘UNTOUCHABLE’ chronicles his crusade, and its impact on the lives of several of the 800,000 people forced to live under the kinds of laws he has championed. The film interweaves intimate portraits of men and women who have been branded sex offenders with the heartbreaking stories of those who have suffered sexual abuse. It is a film that pushes viewers toward an uncomfortable place, requiring them to walk in the shoes of those who have survived sexual abuse, but to still bear witness to the experiences of those we revile.”
