MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State University, Mankato's choral groups will perform in concert Sunday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. The concert will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 632 South Broad Street in Mankato.

This performance will feature the concert choir and chamber singers, led by Elisabeth Cherland, and the University Chorale, led by Abbey Guggisberg. Accompanying the groups will be pianists Ben Marti and Kyle Johnson.

The concert’s theme is “Seasons.” Though the selected pieces explore the beauty and starkness of the four natural seasons, the choirs will also express seasons of love, pain, and joy. Cherland and her students are excited to present this concert.

In the words of freshman tenor Aeden Bertrand, “The talent in this choir is spectacular!”

Abigail Shogren, co-president of concert choir stated, “...I believe any college-age student that comes to see the concert will find themselves represented in one or two of the pieces. I know I do!”

When asked about the concert theme, Cherland explained, “...the choirs will be exploring a theme of seasons. The centerpiece for our program is Linda Palmer's arrangement of Pete Seeger's 'Turn, Turn, Turn.' It quotes the famous text from Ecclesiastes that lists various times of life saying, 'To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.'”

Other musical selections will reflect nature's seasons (“Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind” by John Rutter and “April is in My Mistress' Face by Thomas Morley) but we'll also reflect on seasons of peace (Sarah Riskind's “Oseh Shalom”), seasons of love and broken love (“Oh, My Luve's Like a Red, Red Rose” by David Dickau and “Circles” by Post Malone), and seasons of joy and celebration (“Ta na Solbici” by Samo Vovk and “Alleluia” by Elaine Hagenberg).

Minnesota State Mankato students are admitted free with a valid MavCARD. General admission is $9 and $7 for students (K-12) and all children. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to https://link.mnsu.edu/musictickets or call the Performance Series office, (507) 389-5549.
