June 14: 11th Annual Parent-Child Play Day

 Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Family Consumer Science will host its 11th annual “Parent-Child Play Day” from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, June 14 at Rasmussen Woods (555 Stoltzman Road in Mankato).

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held rain or shine. Parents and children of all ages, including infants and preschool children, are invited.

Students and faculty from the Department of Family Consumer Science will provide materials for play, to include boxes, fabric, tape and paint. Attendees should come prepared to play with children of differing ages and abilities. Students and faculty will introduced opportunities for risk, nature and free play.

Minnesota State Mankato students and faculty organize the annual event as part of a class about the benefits of play for children.  Minnesota State Mankato Associate Professor Heather Von Bank, chair of the Department of Family Consumer Science and Child Development Family Studies, teaches the course.
