MANKATO – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Performing Arts will open the 57^th season of Highland Summer Theatre with “The Miss Firecracker Contest.” The production is made possible by a sponsorship from TRIO Student Support Services at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

“The Miss Firecracker Contest” runs May 29-June 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Andreas Theatre at the Earley Center for Performing Arts at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Tickets are $17 regular price and $15 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more.

Sink into the sultry summer south in 1985 as Carnelle seeks to redeem her reputation and enters the Miss Firecracker Contest, where she meets some wacky personalities along the way. Director Matthew Caron says this production is funny, tender, and will prove that people can change for the better.

Highland Summer Theatre will continue with “Grease,” June 12-15. Season tickets are available for both shows through May 27 for only $35.
