Oct. 16: University Jazz Bands and Contemporary Vocal Groups in Concert

MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State University, Mankato's Jazz Bands and Contemporary Vocal Groups will perform Saturday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.

Douglas Snapp directs the Maverick Jazz Big Band and the New Orleans' styled Maverick brass band. The Maverick Fusion and Vocal Precision a cappella vocal groups are co-directed by Snapp and Stephanie Thorpe.

The brass band will perform audience favorites “Funkytown” and “I Feel Good” along with Hugh Masekela's “Grazin' in The Grass.”

The Jazz Mavericks Big Band performance provides a preview of their upcoming Jazz Ball on Nov. 20 including works by Big Band VooDoo Daddy, Tito Puente, and Michael Buble.

Maverick Fusion and Maverick Vocal Precision are preparing to participate in a national a cappella festival. The vocal groups will be performing a variety of works including “Seven Bridges Road,” as performed by Home Free, Michael Buble's “Everything,” “Human” by Rag'nBone Man, and “Lights and Shadows” by OG3NE.

Minnesota State Mankato students are admitted free with a valid MavCARD. General admission is $9 and $7 for students (K-12) and children. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to https://link.mnsu.edu/musictickets or call the Performance Series office, (507) 389-5549.
